Labor Day Weekend

Hi all,
The weather couldn’t have been better here in New England! I think it was the best weekend of the summer. Hubby and I spent four days driving DL and Maggie (Dawna Lisa's four year old full sister) around the trails and roads of Dunstable, MA.
Maggie had some time off from driving since we have been riding her. She is ‘started’ under saddle and doing well. Yesterday and today, we took Maggie out on the lovely trails of the Dunstable Land Trust. WHAT a good girl she was! She took everything in stride including barking dogs, people riding bicycles and water crossings. She is such a solid pony yet slightly different than her sister. I have found that she is better when I ask her to quietly trot past ‘spooky’ things and NOT let her ‘think’ about them at the walk . This is the exact opposite of her sister.
DL just ate up the big hills that I can drive on around here. She is very fit and loves to go. We are working on cantering on both leads on command rather than just going up hills. She is doing great and it adds a little ‘challenge’ to our long drives. DL’s beautiful slow canter is actually slower than her road trot BUT she will need a good canter as we move up in the dressage tests . Yes, I am planning ahead!
Hubby is having a BLAST and don’t think he has ever enjoyed the ponies as much as he is now. I must admit I was a tad worried about his ‘adventures’ on the back of the carriage and we bought him a protective vest this weekend. It is just one of those ounces of prevention (such as our helmets) that I hope we never need.
Darling hubby has also approved me getting a proper dressage ring in my back pasture. We are going to put in a 100 meter by 40 meter dressage ring SO I will finally have a flat place on my rolling property to practice on. THIS is very exciting! Yours, Claudia
