Starting Again...

IT is that time of year again. I am getting ready to send a pony to FL again this winter with Larry Poulin. Instead of DL getting time to bask in the warmth of FL, Maggie is going. This week, it was the new Coggins for Maggie. Tuesday, Maggie will be getting new shoes ALL the way around. It will be the first time she is shod on all four. Maggie is very good for my farrier but doesn’t have a very long attention span. It should prove to be interesting and I am hoping my little drama queen doesn’t do something stupid.
I had hoped to start packing her trunk for FL and see what odd and ends I need to get. For some reason, ‘things’ just seem to magically disappear out of my show trunk during the summer months. Due to the nearly nonstop pouring rain on Saturday and a constant drizzle today, this task has been put off to next weekend.
Maggie will be going to Larry’s on Friday, November 27th and leaving on the big horse van on either Saturday or Sunday to his uncle’s farm. I think Maggie will be OK on the big van even though she has never been on one before. She is a very good hauler in my trailer so I doubt she will be a problem. Of course, we all know that these could be famous last words . One way or the other, I am sure I will hear about it.
I am not planning to compete with Maggie this winter. I think she needs time to grow up and 'get with the program' as Larry calls it. Maggie is five and I am sure many people would say she is overdue to start her competitive driving life. Knowing Maggie, I would have to disagree as Larry does. She is just slow getting it all together mentally. I don't see any reason to push her especially since I plan to be driving her another twenty years. I think it is more important to go slow and do every step along the way right. More later as the time draws closer. Yours, Claudia
