Yesterday in the rain and some spitting snow, I got to drive Dawna Lisa in a new carriage. Peter Von Halem brought a new Bobcat up for me to try out at Larry's. Larry and I helped Peter unload the vehicle. Peter had weighed is before he brought it up and it weighs 385 pounds. This is in the weight range I wanted. The vehicle is basically stainless steel and silver with a tiny bit of black in the under carriage. It has a fifth wheel brake which Larry said I need. I VERY much like the adjustable stainless steel shafts with egg shaped ends. They are very easy to put on and take off.
Dawna Lisa stood quietly as we adjusted my harness. My traces are too long and needed to knotted for the event. My breeching straps are too short but Larry stepped up with another set. Looks like I need to order new traces and breeching straps. Before I clambered aboard the vehicle, Larry told me I could use a mounting block IF I needed. I decided to brave the leap without one to prove that even short legged old ladies can get in a marathon vehicle. Then again, I knew Larry had a good hold on DL's head. She hasn't been driven for a time because of all the rain and was on the high end of 'perky'.
The sodden sand of the ring quickly turned my rather hot pony into a nice girl that was more than willing to work quietly. After a few rounds, I walked her back to Larry and we took off down the road and had some nice work. I was pleased with how the vehicle rode, the seat can move forward enough so I comfortable with my 'short legs' and coming down a couple of hills, I even remembered to put my foot on the brake. When we got back, DL stood quietly as we unhitched.
LOL! Forgot to mention one minor detail. Hubby was sitting in the idling truck with the heated seats on waiting and watching while all of this happened. He did get out and come over as we were unhitching. He also gave his seal of approval. Peter gave us all a good 'guided' tour of the vehicle including the greasing spots, brake fluid reservoir, stuff in the spares bag (wheel wrench) and the rear wheel locking device for transport.
SO, the deed in done. Peter had a check in his hand as he left happy. DL has new vehicle that is approved by all. The vehicle is sitting in Larry's barn ready for me to visit on Saturday on Sunday depending on the weather. I will drive in it again and then bring DL home. I will need to go back and pickup the vehicle but it is school vacation week next week. Plenty of time to do this.
I am excited. One thing down. NOW onto the horrors of buying a new trailer to fit all this neat stuff into. Yours, Claudia
