I have received several private emails to know MORE about Tangwyllt Dawna Lisa. DL was the first Welsh Cob I bred after importing her dam, Minyffordd Mona Lisa in 1994 http://www.tangwyllt.com/Mona.htm . Dawna Lisa’s sire is the marvelous imported Welsh Cob stallion, Nesscliffe Sunrise owned by my good friend, India Haynes. Nesscliffe Sunrise competed successfully on the East Coast in the CDE circuit and the Welsh show circuit winning much. More of Nesscliffe Sunrise can be seen at http://www.welshcobs.com/.
While driving is relatively new (2004) to Dawna Lisa (born in 1997), she has been my trusted trail riding pony for a number of years. She has been shown at Welsh shows in halter since a yearling and more recently in performance. She really loves the Ridden Cob classes which she has done really well in this year http://www.tangwyllt.com/show2005.htm. I also have her full sister, Tangwyllt Magdalena waiting in the wings growing in the pasture.
I look upon Tangwyllt Dawna Lisa pretty much as a typical Welsh Cob that is being bred here in the States. I do admit that her recent win at Dressage at Devon in the open Mountain & Moorland class was very special. As Reserve Supreme Mountain & Moorland (done on a point system judged against each breed standard), I was very pleased with her placing as the highest placed American bred Native pony.
For me as a long term Welsh breeder (nearly thirty years), it is heartening to know that a pony can be successful in halter, ridden and hopefully NOW on the open CDE world. None of the CDE part or driving piece could be achieved without the great assistance of Larry Poulin and his confidence in my homebred mare. Larry is giving Dawna Lisa the future in the CDE world which I couldn’t in the frozen wasteland of New England in the winter. Did I mention the fact that Larry might be a tiny bit better at the ‘driving thing’ then me??? LOL!!!
